    why methexis ?

    methexis takes its name from the ancient Greek idea of participation and shared experience. it describes a communal mode of theatrical performance in which the audience participates in creating the action, rather than just being a spectator.

    in Platonic philosophy, it describes how a physical object partakes in an abstract Form. for example, a flower is beautiful insofar as it partakes in the Form of Beauty. its beauty is therefore temporary and imperfect, whereas the Form of Beauty itself is ideal, eternal and timeless.

    methexis is often contrasted with mimesis. mimesis places the individual performer apart from the audience, in direct contrast to the communal methectic experience, where the line between stage and audience is barely drawn.

    in an age of effort-less, fast-paced, shallow consumption, where culture is oppressively organized around the self, these concepts shape the label’s vision. connecting artists, sound, design, ideas and curious minds through works intended not to be served, but to be discovered.
